Agored Cymru Level 5 Diploma in Practitioner Reflexology

Our Level 5 reflexology diploma was first provided in 2012 after it was developed in response to a perceived need for a more detailed and thorough qualification in this amazing therapy. In comparison with a Level 3 reflexology qualification, all topics and units of a Level 5 course include a greater level of depth of information, along with advanced and specialist techniques.

When choosing a reflexology course it is essential that you enrol on a regulated and recognised qualification in order to be able to gain insurance, be accepted into a membership organisation (such as the Association of Reflexologists) and be able to join a voluntary regulator. This could impact on career opportunities available to you in the future. Please check that your chosen course is on a government recognised qualification framework such as Ofqual, has a registered Awarding body and is externally verified, as our course is. If this information is not transparent on the website, then make sure you check it out thoroughly before enrolling. Our Reflexology training course is accepted by the Association of Reflexologists, the Federation of Holistic Therapists, and all the other leading Reflexology associations, as well as the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC): the independent UK regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners.

The Agored Cymru Level 5 Diploma in Practitioner Reflexology has a minimum number of 160 contact hours (face to face with your tutor). Most courses are run over an academic year, with part time attendance. Learners are expected to undertake approximately 15 hours per week of self-study and case study work enabling most learners to continue working whilst training for their new career. You will be required to complete 100 case study treatments outside your class-time as well as observed clinical assessments within class.

The course is assessment based so there are no written exams to sit. Throughout the course, you will create a portfolio of evidence that consists of a variety of interesting and enjoyable assessments that are all going to help you become a highly confident and competent clinical reflexologist.

This qualification is fully accredited and has been levelled at Level 5 for the reflexology units and Level 4 for the anatomy, physiology and pathology for reflexology (this means that it is reflexology specific) and business planning for reflexologists, by the Awarding body Agored Cymru. Level 5 is equivalent to a foundation degree or an HND in England and Wales, whereas a level 3 qualification equates to 'A' level standard. If a course is not levelled by an awarding body, then please check its validity and that it sits on the qualification framework. The five units in the Level 5 Diploma in Practitioner Reflexology are assigned to the Nursing and Subjects and Vocations Allied to Medicine Sector whereas the level 3 courses may be allied to health and social care, alongside beauty therapy courses.

This is an inclusive course. We welcome applications from people who have English as a second language and those from diverse backgrounds.

The Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology is integrated and applied throughout the course with many examples and exercises of situations with real clients in clinical practice. We look at pathophysiology - why and how people get ill and are great advocates of functional medicine.

This is a holistic course for a holistic therapy – you are taught to consider how illness is affected by someone’s mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing as well as the physical and hereditary causes.

We believe that an understanding of the science behind this amazing therapy, that stems from the medical profession, is very important. The course also analyses the reflexology research available, in order to validate its value to the scientific community.

We encourage our learners to work intuitively and energetically with their own natural healing abilities.

We offer a unique, highly adaptable additional treatment called Adaptive Integrated Reflexology© or AIR.

AIR encompasses aspects of health that impact so many in today’s stressful and uncertain world. It is a deeply relaxing and balancing treatment with simple adaptations to support clients with specific conditions such as:

Children’s conditions, puberty and teenage health concerns, fertility for both women and men, pregnancy, peri-menopause, menopause, andropause, post-menopause concerns, palliative, cancer-care, and life-limiting illnesses, wellbeing for the elderly, long-covid and immune related conditions, digestive issues, muscular and skeletal problems and trauma.

So that we are covering all stages of the life of a client we also cover an introduction to helping parents with typical baby health problems with simple effective reflexology techniques.

As reflexology is a complementary and not an alternative therapy we always work alongside the medical profession, and you learn how and when to signpost clients.

Included in the qualification are:

Reflexology Skills in Practice

In this unit you are introduced to your toolkit of reflexology techniques and skills. Clinical skills (e.g., communication, ethics, and professionalism) are thoroughly covered. The course covers hand and foot reflexology. With some colleges including additional micro systems.

Providing Reflexology for Specific Conditions

We explore the stress response and it’s far-reaching health effects as well as how to support the client with different conditions throughout the different ages and stages of life, as outlined above with Adaptive Integrated Reflexology© AIR.

Incremental Development of Applied Reflexology Skills in Practice

In this unit we build on your reflexology skills and techniques. As this is a practical therapy, we spend most of the days in class developing clinical practitioner skills and aim to teach ‘best practice’ at all times.

We thoroughly cover how to tailor a treatment plan to an individual client and condition.

Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Reflexology

We take a holistic and applied approach to understanding how our bodies are organised, and how they work. We focus on stress and the physical and psychological effects it has on us, and we consider how our body will strive to naturally bring itself back into balance and what we can do to encourage this. Assessment is mainly by workbooks and an essay. There is no end of year exam!

Business Skills for Reflexology Practice

In this module you will write a business plan, choose a name and logo, and draft leaflets and content for a website, as well as set up a cash flow forecast. We cover legal requirements for running your own business so that by the time the course is completed your new reflexology business can be up and running.

The Agored Cymru Level 5 Diploma in Practitioner Reflexology has been revised in 2023 by the Integrated Reflexology Consortium Founder Partners in order to offer the latest cutting-edge information and techniques available to reflexologists. Our desire is to train you to be the most caring, competent, knowledgeable, skilled, and professional practitioners you can be.
